Scalp cooling can help cancer patients keep their hair during chemotherapy. Here's what it is, who offers it, and how to access financial help.
Cold cap therapy — also called scalp cooling — uses a tightly fitted helmet-like cap chilled to very low temperatures before, during, and after chemotherapy infusions. The cold reduces blood flow to hair follicles, limiting how much chemotherapy reaches them and significantly reducing hair loss for many patients.
It does not work for every chemo regimen or every patient, but studies show it can reduce hair loss by 50–70% for many breast cancer patients on common chemotherapy drugs. It is FDA-cleared and available at many oncology centers in the LA area. Your oncologist can tell you if it's a good fit for your treatment plan.
Your Cold Cap Concierge provides personalized, hands-on support for cancer patients using cold cap therapy during chemotherapy. Jermaine Bradley and his team are trained cold cap specialists who accompany patients to their infusion sessions — managing the cap rotations, timing, and fit so patients and their families don't have to navigate the process alone. This is compassionate, expert care designed to make scalp cooling as effective and stress-free as possible.

Insurance tip: As of 2023, several major insurers including Aetna, Cigna, and some Blue Cross plans have begun covering scalp cooling. Even if your plan doesn't currently cover it, your oncologist can submit a letter of medical necessity to appeal the denial — many patients have succeeded this way. Ask your oncology social worker for help drafting the letter. You can also call the Cancer Legal Resource Center at (866) 843-2572 for free legal help appealing insurance denials.
